It happened again. God showed up in a bar ( or a pub if we are wanting to get technical.) For those of you who haven't read my past blogs, which you still could, last Sunday we met a young man from Santa Ana who just wanted to speak to English speaking people. Nathan just wanted to practice his English, which was pretty good. The conversation turned into one of God, and we asked him to meet us again today.
To be quite honest, I really was not expecting him to show up. "Ye of little faith!" He actually called to make sure we were coming tonight. He showed up and we fed him first of all. Well, the hole-in-the-wall restaurant made the food, but we paid. (And may I add, it was some good eatin'.) Then we just talked. Talked about life, work, school, how things are in America- just things that friends talk about. Jen, led by the Holy Spirit, just asked him about God, again. It was so smooth and not forced. You can really tell that this guy is being chased by God. God loves him-God wants him. It was no coincidence that he showed up at the same time we did last week. It was no coincidence that he understood English so well; I truly believe that he knew English so well because of these times. God had worked this all out- there were no coincidences.
Nathan is really struggling with the fact that God loves him, though he still sins. He feels like his sin is so great, and can't over come it. He kept on saying that he thought the Bible kept on saying he was going to hell for his sin. I wonder who taught him how to read the Bible like that? I am sure that it wasn't people who claim to be "Christians." Yes, that was sarcasm. Sometimes I wonder if people forget who Jesus hung-out with. It wasn't the religious people.
Tonight has reminded me that God is still calling to people whether we are willing to be a part of His calling or not.
Pray for Nathan this week. Pray for us as we try to impart the words that God has put in our mouths, and the patience that is necessary. Pray for the kids here; we are all still adjusting to life.
